Long before we started filming we began researching by reading the CSW (Certified Specialist in Wine) Handbook. This gave us a base knowledge of what a professional working in the industry should know about wine around the world. I followed up with some more technical books including "Post Modern Winemaking" by Clark Smith. Some of the technical know how could only be understood by practical use, so we spent two vintages following and understanding the process of wine growing. I found great records and inspiration about the history of Napa at the Napa Library and Napa Historical Society as well. While we were editing the film I read the book "The Winemaker" by Richard Peterson.
